At the end of the course, students will be able to:
1. Understand and apply client-server concepts to network-aware applications.
Direct measure: Midterm exam.
2. Understand and manipulate the UNIX system environment for files, I/O, and process control.
Direct measure: Projects 1 + 2.
3. Develop socket-based client-server applications of moderate complexity.
Direct measure: Projects 3 + 4.
4. Demonstrate familiarity with modern facilities and protocols for network applications, such as CORBA, SOAP, XML, RPC, and Java RMI.
Direct measure: Final exam.
