At the end of the course, students will be able to

1. Understand and apply concepts of data modeling.

Direct measures: scores on assignments 1-3, exam 1, and project.

2. Understand and implement a database system.

3. Understand current and emerging topics in databases such as object-oriented
design, UML, spatial-temporal databases, multimedia databases, XML,
Internet-based databases, data warehousing, data mining, GIS, and genome data
Management.
