- Take a look at your course objectives to determine if they are still correct or need to be revised. As we have done this fairly recently with the last assessment, there will likely be at most a few changes.
- Verify that you have at least one direct measurement for each of the course objectives, preferably via an exam question or questions. The granularity should be much finer than "Exam 1" or "Homework 1", i.e. you should be able to compute a value to record for this year and the next and evaluate if the students have met the metric.
- For the above metrics, define an appropriate level of student success. For instance, 70% was the metric for student scoring for the metrics for CSE 20211 and CSE 20212.
- Make sure to record the direct measures for aggregation in an end of the semester report. For example, CSE 20211 and CSE 20212 recorded each individual student score for each exam question in an Excel spreadsheet. Please send myself (Aaron - striegel@nd.edu) an e-mail if you would like an example file. The recording is likely to best be done by the TA for the course.
- At the end of the semester, tally the results and place them into a Word, text, or LaTeX? file. The file should contain the objective, the threshold for successful achievement of the direct metric, and the aggregated scores for that metric. You need only have at least one direct measurement for each objective, multiple direct measurements are not necessary. Direct measurements must be graded items. Surveys are not valid for evaluating the success of an objective.
