This course focuses on advanced topics in operating systems with the presumption that the student has already taken a rigorous undergraduate course in operating systems. The course is entirely research-based focusing on reading, analyzing, and discussing research papers in the area of advanced operating systems for the course. Topics for this semester include: advanced storage and fault management, concurrency, and memory / virtual machines. Assignments for the course are realized in research explorations and a literate course project in the area of systems.
This course serves as one of the core qualifying classes for the PhD program in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Notre Dame.
